ADVICE FROM ALUMNI

Advice: Welcome

"TRUE HAPPINESS DOESN'T COME FROM WHAT YOU 'RECEIVE' BUT IT COMES FROM WHAT YOU 'GIVE' TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO NEED IT MORE THAN YOU. BE LESS OF 'ME' AND BE MORE OF 'US'."

1. How to sleep perfectly in Geisel? Go to a tall table near Audrey’s and adjust your tall chair to a very low height, and sleep (Tall table, low height chair). This way, you don’t have to bend your back as much. Once you wake up, you won’t feel any back pain. Speaking from a person who had a back surgery before.
2. Take COGS 9 with Prof Voytek (Data Science), MGT 103/105 with Prof. Campbell (Marketing). All majors should take these classes.
3. For Econ/Mgtsci major: Feel free to contact me about choosing the right major and right classes (to meet your goal). I also have a lot of pass exam papers, and I’m a good mentor.
4. Don’t ever eat Shogun’s noodle soup.
5. To save money, order p’Vip’s catering and turn that into your prep meal. Cost like $4/meal.
6. If you are a freshman, plan your class schedule 3-year ahead. I did that. Your plan will probably change every quarter, but revising your plan will make your career goal more clearer.
7. Take advantage of overlapping GE/Major/Minor classes. I didn’t have to take 4 classes just because I plan my schedule really well and went to see my advisor occasionally.
8. If you have time, you should minor in business. Whether you are from STEM or any field, it is important to have an entrepreneurial mindset.
9. Best Poke shop in town = “Poke Chop”
10. Must try bbq ribs = “Phil’s bbq” <— Over 10,000 reviews on yelp (4.5 stars)
11. Best tea in Thailand = “Bubble Republic”
12. Order Winter Melon Milk Tea at Kungfu Tea
13. Invest in Knowledge > Grade
13. You become like the 5 people you spend the most time with. Choose carefully.
14. It’s important that you surround yourself with people who get you and push you to work harder than you did yesterday.
15. Don’t be penny wise, pound foolish.
16. Study smart, not study hard.
17. Be kind.
